H5n1 Hpai in Different Species

چکیده
This chapter reviews the role of various species in the genesis, persistence and spread of Asianlineage H5N1 HPAI viruses. Special attention is paid to the domestic duck (Anas platyrhynchos var. domesticus), which is considered to have played a key role in these processes. An understanding of the role of domestic ducks in the maintenance and spread of these viruses helps to explain why the current outbreak of HPAI is panzootic whereas earlier outbreaks were not.

Effect of species, breed and route of virus inoculation on the pathogenicity of H5N1 highly pathogenic influenza (HPAI) viruses in domestic ducks
H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) viruses continue to be a threat to poultry in many regions of the world. Domestic ducks have been recognized as one of the primary factors in the spread of H5N1 HPAI. In this study we examined the pathogenicity of H5N1 HPAI viruses in different species and breeds of domestic ducks and the effect of route of virus inoculation on the outcome of infect...
متن کاملVaccination of domestic ducks against H5N1 HPAI: a review.
Domestic ducks play an important role in the epidemiology of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) viruses. Consequently, successful control of H5N1 HPAI in ducks is important for the eradication of the disease in poultry and in preventing infections in humans. Domestic ducks, however, include different species and breeds, and the susceptibility to infection, disease and response to vac...
متن کاملAvian influenza surveillance in wild birds in the European Union in 2006
BACKGROUND Infections of wild birds with highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) subtype H5N1 virus were reported for the first time in the European Union in 2006. OBJECTIVES To capture epidemiological information on H5N1 HPAI in wild bird populations through large-scale surveillance and extensive data collection. METHODS Records were analysed at bird level to explore the epidemiology of AI ...
متن کاملSusceptibility of wood ducks to H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza virus.
Since 2002, H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) viruses have caused mortality in numerous species of wild birds; this is atypical for avian influenza virus (AIV) infections in these avian species, especially for species within the order Anseriformes. Although these infections document the susceptibility of wild birds to H5N1 HPAI viruses and the spillover of these viruses from infecte...
متن کاملHomo- and Heterosubtypic Low Pathogenic Avian Influenza Exposure on H5N1 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Virus Infection in Wood Ducks (Aix sponsa)
Wild birds in the Orders Anseriformes and Charadriiformes are the natural reservoirs for avian influenza (AI) viruses. Although they are often infected with multiple AI viruses, the significance and extent of acquired immunity in these populations is not understood. Pre-existing immunity to AI virus has been shown to modulate the outcome of a highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) virus infec...
